Plot:
The film tells the story of Porco's romance with
Gina, who runs a pilots' club and hotel in the Adriatic; his
friendship with a young girl named Fio who is a talented airplane
engineer; and his rivalry with a hotshot American pilot named Curtis.
The origin and nature of Porco's curse are never fully explained,
although the question does arise in the movie.
During the movie, Porco is on his way to Milan to
repair his plane when he is attacked by Curtis, and his plane crashes.
Curtis believes Porco to be dead, but Porco is in fact hiding on an
island. Porco finishes his journey to Milan and has his plane repaired
by an old mechanic. The mechanic enlists the aid of Fio, who he
introduces as his granddaughter, along with many other female
relatives. The plane is fixed, and Fio decides to accompany Porco on
his return flight. On leaving they are chased by Italian secret police
and the Italian air force, but with the help of Porco's friend
Ferrarin they are able to escape.
Later Gina talks with Curtis on how she wished that
Porco would have come into her garden during the day, which would be a
sign that he loved her. She thinks that for once he is about to land,
but he heads off. Upon landing at a secret place under an island, he
discovers it is not so secret any more, and is accosted by
sea-pirates. Fio talks them out of killing him, or destroying the
plane. Curtis has followed them there, and it is agreed that Curtis
will duel Porco, with the bet being for Curtis to pay off Fio's debt,
or for her to marry him if Porco loses. The two then have an air duel,
watched by many pirates. Porco does not wish to kill Curtis when he
has the opportunity. The fight eventually ends up as a fist fight in
the water after the machinegun in Porco's plane jams and Curtis has
run out of ammo. At the end of a seemingly endless fight they knock
each other out. Both of them are underwater and nobody seems to
emerge, when suddenly Porco stands up winning the fight. At the same
time Gina arrives to tell them the Italian air force are about to
arrive and they are all forced to flee. The film ends with narration
by Fio who does not reveal a final secret at the end.
